The new poster for Toy Story 3 was just released recently. As anyone can see this poster uses a lot of bold colors. All of the characters have very distinct colors which pulls the viewer's eyes to each color and thus each different character. Also very noticable is the big 3 in the middle of the poster. Not only does this draw the viewer's eye because of its mere size, but also because it is bright yellow which really makes it pop. The designer also decided to use outlining, so the yellow is outlined in a light blue. These two colors, yellow and blue, play really well off of each other. Not only are the use of blue and yellow good for the poster because they look good together, but also because they are usually the 'nicer' colors. Yellow is a very happy color, and light blue is also associated as being a soft color. Neither of these colors are very harsh, and considering this poster is for a kid's movie this makes a lot of sense. The colors need to be inviting. I think color was very important in this poster because it is trying to attract kids and they notice playful, colorful things.

This next ad is off Calvin Klein. Most of their ads are in black and white and usually involve half-naked models. I think that the lack of color really sets the setting and feeling for this ad. This ad is very sensual and I think it is trying to portray simplicity. While this ad is in black and white, a lot of shading is used. There are many gradients of gray in the ad. Also, having the female models face a lighter shade than the rest of the ad immediately draws the viewer to her face which is very strong. I think that having color in this ad would definitely change the desired mood. This ad is supposed to be very soft.
