Week 8: McGill

The expedia logo gets plastered on their commercials all the time. The logo has become very recognizable and illustrates several Gestalt principles. The base of the design is the blue circle behind the plane. The symmetry of the circle is a representation of the Gestalt principle of equilibrium. The plane also is illustrated to show movement across the blue circle which is an example of the Gestalt principle of continuation. The movement helps guide the readers' eye across the logo.

The logo does a good job of depicting what the company does. The blue circle represents the world, and the plane represents travel. Therefore, it is easy to tell that the company assists in travel across the world. The softness of the lines and the cartoonish nature of the logo is pacifying. Travel can be very stressful for some people and this logo gives a relaxing vibe.

The color does not play a huge part in the logo as far as trying to depict an important message. The colors are soft and nonthreatening which reinforces the idea that the company tries to make planing travel easy and more relaxing.
