Good logos work because of clever interplay with Gestalt principles and use of color. This week's blog post makes use of material we've covered in class to get you to apply knowledge to outside design.
ASSIGNMENT
Find an example of a logo you like online, in print, from your box of cereal (no repeated examples from class).
Analyze the following and number your responses to match these prompts:
1. What gestalt principles are at play.
2. What this logo communicates about the company's work/personality.
3. How placement, color and typography used contribute to the logo.
Example:
If any of you watched the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony... all three hours of it, you may have noticed a prime example of Gestalt in their 82 (below).
1. Closure is certainly at work here. There isn't an 82, just strategic placement of shapes to create both an 82 and a heart according to some.
2. Class, luxury and elegance
3. Silver directly links with the awards ceremony for the "silver screen." typography is not the issue since the shapes are used to give the idea of closure. The heart formed by the numbers also adds a nice expression of the Academy's (and people who watch the show) love of movies.
