Week 8 Ryan McDonnell

1. The line that splits up the letters provides continuation in ESPN's logo. It's even throughout the logo and is in the same location. At the same time it provides a good visual effect for the "E" as well as breaking up the letter "N". Also, the letters "S" and "P: are connected at the top and help balance the logo at its halfway point.
2. This logo has an athletic feel to it, which helps give off the message that the network's all about sports. The line in it can also make it feel like a line on a sports field, which I'm not sure if it's the intended use of it but is pretty clever when you think about it.
3. The use of the color red brings out some excitement, such as the excitement sports brings out. Red also tends to be an athletic color, so its use is very much seen. The logo being slanted also gives the logo motion, and as we all know motion is a very vital part of sports. It really establishes itself as a logo for a network who wants to be the first destination for sports fans, and the logo does just that.
