Week 7 | Palermo

My first example showcases monochromatic color. The opening scene for the James Bond movie Casino Royale is done almost entirely in black and white except for the famous, gun barrel and following blood dripping transition to the theme song. Red is the first color scene in the movie, which as a color used to represent violence and passion, themes in the movie. I always liked how they shot the opening sequence and felt that the use of black and white gave the scene a rough but sophisticated feel. The black and white also gave the movie a nostalgic feel and since this is supposed to be chronologically the first Bond movie, the producers may have wanted it to seem older.

My next example showcases bold color. M&Ms use of bright colors in their candy and on their associated products. The use of bright primary and secondary colors associate happyness, innocence (childhood) and upbeat feelings with the M&Ms. The colors for the character M&Ms (red and yellow) were chosen because red and yellow have been thought to make people hungry.
