Week Seven: Wolk

One of the most colorful images I've seen recently has been this advertisement for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which has just come out. This ad and the others in its campaign really stick out and make the movie come alive through the use of bold color. The green behind Johnny Depp in this image catches the eye but is not too crazy, serving as a neutral for the rest of the ad. His orange hair makes his character look a little more friendly and clown-like, which, although frightening to some, is a relatively friendly character. In the Queen of Hearts picture, the red used in the image adds some power and sex appeal to the picture. The white used for both faces adds a pop to the image and makes the faces really stand out. There is also enough black used to add a sense of mystery and sophistication, which is part of what the movie is about.
The colors used in the left side of the image or somewhat analogous; although they are all bold, they still work together. The colors on the right half of the image are a little more complementary: the red and blue contrast enough to provide a strong image that is aesthetically pleasing.

In the Chanel ad, black-and-white images are used. The Chanel brand is obviously more expensive, and the black-and-white provides a sophisticated look that is classic, just like the perfume itself. To go along with the classic look of the model, the monotonous color palette adds drama and is actually very bold.
