Week 7 | Mariotti

I decided to use album cover art to find examples of color. The first example I found was a monochromatic cover, which was The Cold War Kids’ Loyalty to Loyalty. The black and white cover with a cool filter gives the album an eerie vibe. The skeleton would’ve looked cheesy if color was used. The simplicity in the lack of color makes for a powerful image.

For the example of a bold use of color, I found Architecture in Helsinki’s Places Like This. The colors used on the cover are green, yellow, blue, and pink. While yellow and green are analogous colors, pink and green are complementary. The use of color gives this cover a quirky, whimsical feel. I don’t think they wanted the cover to be too serious, and the color achieves this.
