Week One | Wu

Urban Outfitter is my favorite brand. Its style is modern with classic elements, distinct and young. Take a look at its website and posters, the use of typography reflects the style of urban outfitter. The logo uses all sans serif and all caps. All caps makes the logo very strong. It attracts audience's attention. Sans serif is a modern typography. It is simple. It communicates straight forward with its audience.

The website also uses sans serifs. Not only the logo is in sans serif but also all the text. Sans serif is stylish. It is a trend in today's typography design. One of the reasons is that there are so many sans serif typefaces that you will never run out of choices. The different sans serif on the website separate sections from each other. However, they all convey same ideas, that are, modern, young, urban and distinct. I think the typography on the website successfully represents the style of urban outfitter and attracts the target audience. It is consistent and convincing.

  1. Good call, Yiwei. UO does connote modern through its type choice and appeals to a younger, hip crowd. Are you excited for their move-in to Armory Square?

Did you know they used to be called the "Free People's Store" and it was founded in 1970. It's funny how over time a store/brand can evolve with the business/market, but UO has always tried to be more edgy.

    Keep up the good work,
