Week Two | Wu

Apple.com is a good website. The first sight of the homepage impresses the user immediately. It is clean; it is white, grey and silver. It is simple. It is readable and easy to navigate. It well shows the modern style of this brand.
On the homepage, white and silver background makes the iPad out-stand. iPad is new to the apple family. Emphasizing on iPad maximizes advertising for the new product. On the top of the webpage, the silver navigation bar has black text. All the text are in the Myriad typeface. Myriad is a sans serif typeface; it is very modern. Title "iPad" is bold, black and big. The text under it are light and smaller. This shows the hierarchy among the text, and make what's important stand out. The pictures are big and keep changing which well engages the users.
If you click on any section on the navigation bar, the webpages that pops up are in the same style. Body text is in Myriad. It is very consistent. The detailed information is given in lighter fonts. The hierarchy is clear. It leads the users well to the information they are looking for. For example, on Mac webpage, you can slide the bar on the top of the page, which is the same way how you slide the block to unlock your iTouch. This small feature engages the user and it is consistent with the product. The using of grey in contrast to white makes different sections stand out.
Overall, the website is consistent in its style. It is easy to read and it well shows the personality of the brand: modern.

  1. Good job analyzing a staple site for me. Apple does have a clean, easy to navigate site that labels what is there and how to get there really nice. The real estate given to visuals also makes it pleasing to use. Would have liked to hear more about how this site's design speaks to the user and what that says about our culture of media use, but we can talk about that sometime - maybe tweet it over our ipod touches?

Cheers and keep up the good work!
