Week Two: Reiter

I chose the freepeople website because it is a website that I visit often, if not daily. The website features clothes, but unlike other clothing websites it is very creative and has interesting graphics. The site is very clean, with the opening window having three link selections, each leading to a different part of the website.

The actual website is also very interactive, and 'smart'. When a person clicks on a piece of clothing the site will find similar clothing to preview on the sidebars of the page. The site also includes a shopping cart, and wish list, and other interactive tools.

Often times it is frustrating to navigate through a website, especially when a person is looking for a certain piece of clothing. However, this website uses a very artsy and clean style to display the clothing, while also giving the impression that the website is more than just a clothing site.

Today, I think our media culture is very focused on comprehensive and visual websites. Simplistic things are more eyecatching, and in todays media culture things need to be graphic. This has changed the way the media creates things because web designers are forced to create a website that only uses a few words but still conveys to the viewer what they need to know.

  1. Davis,

Good example of user-based design with the "suggested" clothing items to the side. I also think you balance this analysis nice with commentary on our media culture (Whatever that word means!).

    Keep it up!
