Week 10 Ryan McDonnell

I apologize for the picture quality, but I don't have a scanner at my disposal at the moment and I wanted to use my magazine of The Hockey News as an example. The section of the magazine that this comes from is the NHL Team Report section.

1. The grid system in place uses 4 columns and splits the page in two. The 4 columns on the bottom feature 4 teams from a division in the NHL while the 4 on top focus on one specific team in the same division. The boundaries are very much set in stone as you see that none of the text is outside any given reason and the uniform design to it really helps maintain gestalt.

2. The grid helps to aid the reader by really being organized. If you want to find your team's scouting report, all you need to do is find the column that they're featured. The graphics of each team's logo does even more to aid the reader and helps break it up nicely.

3. The design engages the reader not only with its simplicity and rigid structures, but also its use of team logos and a picture for the featured team. It helps grab the reader's attention when they see their team's logo or star player being featured and encourages them to read further.

4. The design really doesn't cause any tension. The way it's structured really helps organize the page and gives a good structure for giving information about teams as well as providing a feature story for one of them all on the same page. It really helps to give equal footing to all 30 NHL teams while at the same time captures the reader and their interest.
