Week Ten: Reiter

This grid system is pretty basic-- it has the standard three columns going down the page. However, the columns are broken up by smaller boxes which I think really breaks up the long columns and benefits the reader. This three column design works well for the newspaper because it allows one column to have a view advertisements and the rest content. A lot of what they feature on the front are bullet points hyperlinked to stories so the column is a good visual for that. The pictures they use also work well with the grid because they are a good size for the three columns and fit easily inside one of them. The grid aids the reader because it is very simple and clean. The pictures are clearly on the left, bullet points in the center, and advertising on the right. I wouldn't say this layout is necessarily engaging as it is easy to read. The paper follows the columns very closely, and no images are really breaking the column. THis does make it easier to read though because it is a newspaper after all. I think its most engaging factor is its simplicity. I wouldn't say there is a lot of tension either-- almost all the space is filled but in a very organized, simple way.
