Week 13 | Leveille

Last.fm is a website that allows users to find music based on what they listen to. In this sense it is similar to Pandora, but it also goes farther by providing users with events in the area, recommendations, free music downloads and more. Users can also become friends with others and see how compatible their music tastes are to one another. The variety of uses for the website makes it easier for users to expand their music library.

With respect to the site's purpose, a user can automatically begin his or her search for music on the front page of the website by typing in a favorite song or artist. This will lead him or her to that specific artist's profile, which has a series of information including the artist's biography, upcoming events, songs and current top songs, videos, news, listeners and more. The front page also links users to the Last.fm radio, which is a personalized radio. A user can pick a band and the radio will play songs based on similar bands and what other people with similar tastes listen to. Users can also choose exactly what genre of music they're looking for. Local events and music downloads are shown on the front page specifically geared towards the genre chosen.

In regard to visual hierarchy, the search bar for music, video and event recommendations fills a majority of the front page. This is good because the site's purpose is to facilitate a user's search for music. There is still enough space to see the local events and free music downloads without scrolling down, which is important because people often look for these two things as well. Last.fm is set up in such a way that what people want the most can be seen as soon as they go to the site. I feel that the site is well organized and it's evident that it keeps its users interests in mind.
