Week 13 | Palermo

I noticed today that Rolling Stone has redesigned its webpage, and this newer one demonstrates more visual hierarchy than the old one. The large graphics towards the upper left grab the viewers attention, as does their magazine flag situated in the background across the top. The top stories are shown in a sidebar to the left of the large graphic with smaller sidebars showing smaller stories below. The drop down menus across the top of the page make it easier to navigate through the site to find exactly what news you're looking for. The separate links for music and movie reviews make these destinations one click away for the viewer decreasing the number of pages they have to pan through to find them. The new more segregated grid system allows the information to be displayed in a manner that isn't overwhelming to the viewer. In the past, boxes of small text made it cumbersome to find information on the front page. As you scroll down the page their are more eye grabbing photos towards the bottom linking you to photo archives. At the bottom of the page are three boxes showing the latest music reviews, song reviews and movie reviews. The designers of the new Rolling Stone website cleaned up the presentation of information on Rolling Stones old website. The form the website uses now grabs the viewers attention and makes it easier to discern what is top news vs. what are the minor news stories (size of their respective containers).
