Week 11 | Leveille

The Borders Magic Shelf can be found on the front page of Borders the instant you visit the book store's website. When you click "what's this?" on the sidebar, the box that pops up reads, "Up, down, left and right - you'll find good stuff any way you browse the Magic Shelf, plus books, music and movies picked just for you." The Magic Shelf allows the user to browse through a selection of new books, music and DVDs without leaving the front page. Categories include new music, new nonfiction, new fiction, new DVDs, new for kids, staff recommendations, upcoming releases, great cookbooks and popular paperbacks.

The user is also given the opportunity to choose what they like to read, listen to and watch in order to find books, music and movies that match his or her interests. If he or she wants to know more about a selection, all the user has to do is click on "view item" and a window pops up with a brief summary and price of the book. The user can add the item to his or her cart, add it to a wishlist or rate it directly on the page. This makes for quick purchases.

Aside from the Magic Shelf, the overall site is easy to navigate due to the tabs, which focus on specific user needs. Books, teens, kids, movies and TV, and music are clearly set apart from one another, so the tabs make for easy, quick navigation through the site.
